Police Arrest Suspected Backpage Bandit From Bridgeport After Hotel Attack

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man has been arrested by Milford police as the suspected "backpage bandit" who has attacked and robbed woman at local hotels and motels,

police said. 

The victims had offered services through the website "backpage.com," police said. 

Jonathan Arzu, 23, of 297 Laurel Ave. was arrested Sept. 15, accused of joining two accomplices and forcing their way into a hotel room on Boston Post Road in Milford on July 27, police said. The so-called "backpage bandit" went on to tie up and rob a woman at knifepoint and also damaged the room, police said.

Arzu was brought in with DNA evidence and his involvement was corroborated by a positive identification from the victim, police said. 

He was charged with robbery, restraint and larceny. Arzu waqs held on $50,000 bond with a court date in Milford of Sept. 15. More arrests are expected through this ongoing investigation into further similar cases, police said.
